تَغَضَّبت إِذ لَم أَكُن في الَّذي

تَغَضَّبت إِذ لَم أَكُن في الَّذي

قَصَدتُ بِجاهِكَ أَستَشفِعُ

قَصَدتُ بِجاهِكَ أَستَشفِعُ

You grew angry because I did not, in what

You were angry that I was not in the one

I sought, seek intercession through your influence.

I intended with your rank, I plead

فَإِن شِئتَ فَاِعضَب وَإِن شِئتَ لا

فَإِن شِئتَ فَاِعضَب وَإِن شِئتَ لا

فَما إِن تَضُرُّ وَلا تَنفَعُ

فَما إِن تَضُرُّ وَلا تَنفَعُ

So if you wish, be angry; and if you wish, do not.

So if you want, keep being angry, and if you want, do not

For you neither harm nor help.

For neither does your anger hurt nor benefit

إِذا كانَ جاهُكَ ذاغُرَّةٍ

إِذا كانَ جاهُكَ ذاغُرَّةٍ

وَلَم يَكُ في مَشيِهِ يُسرِعُ

وَلَم يَكُ في مَشيِهِ يُسرِعُ

If your influence bears a white blaze,

If your rank is powerless

And does not hasten in its gait,

And does not hasten in its course

فَكَيفَ يَجوزُ رُكوبي لَهُ

فَكَيفَ يَجوزُ رُكوبي لَهُ

وَخَطوى مِن خَطوِهِ أَوسَعُ

وَخَطوى مِن خَطوِهِ أَوسَعُ

How, then, can I reasonably ride it,

Then how can I ride it

When my stride is longer than its own?

When my stride is wider than its stride
