لَناfor us خِلٌّa friend مَوارِدُهُhis watering places مِلاءُfull
لَنا خِلٌّ مَوارِدُهُ مِلاءُ
إِذاwhen اِستَسقَيتَهُyou ask him for water فاضَoverflows العَطاءُthe bounty
إِذا اِستَسقَيتَهُ فاضَ العَطاءُ
We have a friend whose watering places are full.
When you ask him for water, bounty overflows.
يَجَلُّhe is exalted لِفَضلِهِfor his excellence عَنbeyond كُلِّevery شِبهٍlikeness
يَجَلُّ لِفَضلِهِ عَن كُلِّ شِبهٍ
كَماjust as جَلَّتstands high عَنِabove الأَرضِthe earth السَماءُthe sky
كَما جَلَّت عَنِ الأَرضِ السَماءُ
His excellence raises him beyond all comparison,
As the sky rises above the earth.
إِذاwhen اِستَجلىbrings to light خَصائِلَهُhis qualities اِختِياريmy discernment
إِذا اِستَجلى خَصائِلَهُ اِختِياري
رَأىit sees غُرَراًradiant virtues لَهاthey have حُسنٌbeauty وَماءُand luster
رَأى غُرَراً لَها حُسنٌ وَماءُ
When my discernment brings his qualities to light,
It sees radiant virtues endowed with beauty and luster.
