And drinking companions adept at savoring its scent.

And bubbles on cups, like roses,

On whose robes dew forms collars.

Whenever a cupbearer pours it from the wine jar,

The night remains in a race with its radiance.

    لِاِجتِماعِ الهُمومِ مِنهُ اِفتِراقُ

    And we have a piper who glories in his piping;

Through him, gathered cares are scattered.

And a singer with an embroidered border of cheek-down,

Above a cheek with delicate fringes.

Whenever his paired strings thunder, there comes

A flash of lightning from the pitchers among us.

So ride abandon toward me, for with me

There is a race of wanton revels in merriment.

Do you not see the violet's jewel, as there arises

From it a blueness amid the gardens' green?

And the necks of the branches are unveiled before us,

With necklaces whose dividing beads are leaves.

He said it—for life is a foe of idleness,

As the full moon is a foe of the moon's dark phase.
