    أَذيالَ أَثوابِ التَباهي

    Trail, O Abu Abd al-Ilah,

    the hems of the robes of proud display;

and cast off your bridle, reveling

with every reveling woman and man.

So long as your fate lies sleeping,

    before the hour of awakening,

delight in the daughter of a vine,

    whom no cook has deflowered with fire;

    she leaves mighty sorrow,

    after its defiance, feeble,

between the rubies of the fruits

and the crystal of the waters,

    in a garden of Giza

    whose scattered stock flowers shine.

And fold away talk with your drinking companion

    when the musical instruments speak.

And rejoice in the festival whose

    days have radiant brows.

May your prestige ever be a choking lump

in the heart of one who envies all prestige.

For you indeed, O son of Muhammad,

are without peer in noble deeds.
