الرَوضُthe garden فيin ديباجَةٍbrocade خَضراءِgreen
الرَوضُ في ديباجَةٍ خَضراءِ
وَالجَوُّand the sky فَرَجِيَّةٍa loose robe دَكناءِdusky
وَالجَوُّ فَرَجِيَّةٍ دَكناءِ
The meadow is robed in green brocade,
The garden is in green brocade,
and the sky wears a dusky farajiyya cloak.
And the sky in a dusky robe.
وَالأَرضُand the earth قَدindeed نَظَمَstrung الرَبيعُspring لِجيدِهاfor its neck
وَالأَرضُ قَد نَظَمَ الرَبيعُ لِجيدِها
عِقداًa necklace مِنَof الصَفراءِthe yellow وَالحَمراءِand the red
عِقداً مِنَ الصَفراءِ وَالحَمراءِ
Spring has strung around the earth’s neck
And the earth—spring has strung for its neck
a necklace of yellow blossoms and red;
A necklace of yellow and red blossoms.
وَالراحُand the wine قَدindeed نَظَمَstrung الرَبيعُspring عَقيقَهاits carnelian
وَالراحُ قَد نَظَمَ الرَبيعُ عَقيقَها
دُرَرَpearls الفَواقِعِthe bubbles جَوهَرِيُّthe jeweler of الماءِwater
دُرَرَ الفَواقِعِ جَوهَرِيُّ الماءِ
and the wine—spring has strung its carnelian
And the wine—spring has strung its carnelian
with pearls of bubbles—spring, the jeweler of water.
With pearls of bubbles, as water’s jeweler.
فَاِقصِدso seek رِضىthe favor of رِضوانِهاits Ridwan بِالشُربِby drinking إِنif
فَاِقصِد رِضى رِضوانِها بِالشُربِ إِن
أَحبَبتَyou wish سُكنىdwelling in جَنَّةِthe paradise of الشِراءِpurchase
أَحبَبتَ سُكنى جَنَّةِ الشِراءِ
Then seek its Riḍwān’s favor through drinking, if
So seek the favor of its Ridwan by drinking, if
you wish to dwell in Paradise won in the Bargain.
You wish to dwell in the paradise one can buy.
