يا طيبَ نَشوَتِنا عَلى
فَحمٍcharcoal كَلَونِlike the color of العَنبَرِambergris
فَحمٍ كَلَونِ العَنبَرِ
Oh, how sweet our rapture over
Charcoal the color of ambergris!
وافىit came فَكانَand so were شَرارُهُits sparks
وافى فَكانَ شَرارُهُ
كَالياسَمينَlike jasmine الأَصفَرِyellow
كَالياسَمينَ الأَصفَرِ
It came, and its sparks were
Like yellow jasmine,
حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen اِنتَسَجِwas woven الرَماthe ash (word continues)
حَتّى إِذا اِنتَسَجِ الرَما
دُ(completes 'ash') عَلَيهِover it بَعدَafter تَسَعُّرِblazing
دُ عَلَيهِ بَعدَ تَسَعُّرِ
Until, when the ash was woven
Over it after blazing,
كاناthe two were كَوَردٍlike roses أَبيَضٍwhite
كانا كَوَردٍ أَبيَضٍ
مِنfrom فَوقِabove وَردٍroses أَصفَرِyellow
مِن فَوقِ وَردٍ أَصفَرِ
The two were like white roses
Above yellow roses.
