ياO مَنyou who لِسَيفِfor the sword of أَذاهُhis harm
فيin جِسمِthe body of عَيشيmy life جِراحُwounds
O you, whose sword of harm
O you whose sword's harm
has left wounds in the body of my life.
inflicts wounds in the body of my life,
إِنif كانَis وَجهِيَmy face حَيّاًbashful
فَوَجهُthen the face of شِعريmy poetry وَقاحُbrazen
If my face is bashful,
if my face seems alive,
then the face of my poetry is brazen.
my poetry's face is impudent.
فَصَيَّرَso he turned الحَربِwar سَلماًpeace
فَالصُلحُfor reconciliation فيهِin it الصَلاحُwell-being
So he turned war into peace,
So make war into peace,
for in reconciliation lies well-being.
for in it lies prosperity.
