ياO عَذوليmy reproacher فيfor اِكتِئابيmy dejection
أَلهوىlove عَذبُsweet العَذابِof torment
O you who reproach me for my dejection,
Oh tormentor in my gloom
Love is sweet in its torment.
I yearn for the sweet torment
فَالحُso reproach مَنwhomever شِئتَyou wish وَدَعنيand leave me
لاdo not تَزِدنيadd to me فَوقَbeyond ماwhat بيafflicts me
So reproach whomever you wish, and leave me;
So heal whoever you wish and leave me be
do not add to what I already suffer.
Add no more to my plight
فَوَso, by مَنthe One who رَدّاهُrobed him بِالحُسwith beau-

So, by the One who robed him in beauty
By whomsoever impelled by youth
over the garment of youth,
To cast it off in old age's gown
لاnever رَأىfind مِنّيfrom me قُبولاًacceptance

فيهِconcerning him سُلطانُthe authority العِتابِof reproach
never shall it find acceptance with me—
He'll get no acceptance from me
the authority of reproach concerning him.
In it lies domination by reproach
