يا أَيُّها الزاهِدُ في الزُهدِ

يا أَيُّها الزاهِدُ في الزُهدِ

عَرِّج عَنِ الهَزلِ إِلى الجِدِّ

عَرِّج عَنِ الهَزلِ إِلى الجِدِّ

O you who renounce renunciation,

O you who shun asceticism,

turn aside from jest and toward earnestness.

Turn from frivolity to earnestness.

فَبَعدَ نورِ الشَيبِ لا يُرتَجى

فَبَعدَ نورِ الشَيبِ لا يُرتَجى

لِلمَرءِ إِلّا ظُلمَةُ اللَحدِ

لِلمَرءِ إِلّا ظُلمَةُ اللَحدِ

Beyond the light of gray hair, nothing may be expected

For after the light of gray hair, nothing is to be expected

for a man except the darkness of the grave.

فَاِحتَل مِنَ التَوبَةِ في أَجرِهِ

فَاِحتَل مِنَ التَوبَةِ في أَجرِهِ

إِن شِئتَ سُكنى جَنَّةِ الخُلدِ

إِن شِئتَ سُكنى جَنَّةِ الخُلدِ

So devise, through repentance, a way to its reward,

So seek, through repentance, to gain its reward,

if you desire to dwell in the Garden of Eternity.

if you wish to dwell in the Garden of Eternity.
