ياO مَنwho يُقَدِّرُsupposes أَنَّهُthat he is مِثليmy equal
يا مَن يُقَدِّرُ أَنَّهُ مِثلي
شَتّانَhow far apart بَينَbetween العُلوِloftiness وَالسُفلِand lowliness
شَتّانَ بَينَ العُلوِ وَالسُفلِ
O you who imagine yourself my equal,
How far apart are the high and the low!
أَتقيسُنيdo you compare me بِكَwith yourself فيin مُساجَلَةٍa contest
أَتقيسُني بِكَ في مُساجَلَةٍ
مَنwho ذاthis one يَقيسُcompares الغِمدَthe sheath بِالنَصلِwith the blade
مَن ذا يَقيسُ الغِمدَ بِالنَصلِ
Do you compare me with yourself in a contest?
Who would compare the sheath with the blade?
إِنif كُنتَyou were لَمdid not تَخبُرexperience مُناضَلَتيcontending with me
إِن كُنتَ لَم تَخبُر مُناضَلَتي
فَاِقصِرthen desist فَمِثلُكَfor one like you لَيسَis not مِنof نَضليmy equal in contest
فَاِقصِر فَمِثلُكَ لَيسَ مِن نَضلي
If you have not experienced contending with me,
Then desist, for one like you is no match for me.
