O you who call yourself a poet,
O you who call yourself a poet
Do not follow the tracks of the lean steed.
Do not follow in the steps of the valiant steed

فَدَعِso give up التَتَبُّعَpursuit لِلجِيادِof the steeds إِذاwhen جَرَتthey run
حَتّىuntil تَكونُyou are طَويلَlong خَطوِstride الخاطِرِthought
So give up pursuing the steeds when they run,
So stop pursuing the steeds when they bolt
Until you take long strides in thought.
Until you can take long strides in thought
