O you through whom the dead lived in memory
And to whom my affairs return,
And to whom my affairs shall return

أَبذُلُها مِن دِنانِ فِكري
And I have nothing but rhymes,
And I have nothing to offer except rhymes
Which I offer from the wine jars of my thought,
That flow from my mind’s coins

Amid greetings made of meanings
Among greetings laden with meanings
That have shone in the bosoms of my verse.
That shone in the breasts of my poetry

So if you come to my aid with wine
So if you relieve me with some comfort
That relieves me of my secret torment,
That would ease me of my secret torment
