O you naïve, ignorant man, who

    neglects what would benefit him:

Do not seek this world, nor be distracted

by its dominion from Him to whom dominion belongs.

Nor sell piety for error, for none

profits except one who has piety.

The jewel has been made plain through the counsel

of one whose words admit no doubt.

So string it around your neck—or not; for no harm

befalls it if it lacks a thread.
