O face of the radiant moon,

O stature of the fresh green bough,

The veil has been unjust; rise with us,

let us turn to the justice of wines.

Do not be heedless of pleasure

on a rainy day like this.

For al-Qash is clad in brocade,

its patterns are myrtle and wallflowers.

    Its trees and its breeze

    are like clothes-racks and incense.

And its oxeye flowers are like suns,

and its pools are like full moons.

And the birds throughout its reaches

    answer one another with whistles.

    So take the gold that

    the juice-strainer set flowing,

until it cleared, as though it were

    a free man's tears over a captive.

    It displays bubbles like necklaces

    upon cups like incense.

So leave the small one in its place,

and turn toward the large one,

    amid roses like cheeks

    and daisies like mouths.

If you know that I have

knowledge of keeping to early starts,

    then, if you gain delight,

it is through the adviser's sound counsel.
