لَطالَhas indeed grown long بِطولِwith the length of هِجرَتِهِhis desertion سُهاديmy sleeplessness
عِبادِيٌّan ʿIbādī يَتيهُstruts proudly عَلىover العِبادِpeople
My sleeplessness has indeed grown long with his long desertion.
My love has been long in his estrangement,
An ʿIbādī who lords it proudly over people.
A worshipper wandering amongst the worshippers.
وَقَفتُI stood إِلَيهِbefore him أَرفَعُI submit a complaint فيconcerning التَجَنّيunjust treatment
وَأَشرَحُand I explain ماwhat جَناهُhe inflicted it عَلىupon فُؤاديmy heart
I stood before him, lodging a complaint of unjust treatment,
I stood to him, raising myself in reproach,
and explaining what he had inflicted upon my heart.
And disclosed what his abandonment had done to my heart.
فَوَقِعso he wrote his ruling قَدalready حَطَطناwe have lifted العَتبَthe blame عَنهُfrom him
وَصَرَّفناهُand we appointed him فيto عَمَلِthe service of الوِدادِaffection
So he wrote his ruling: “We have lifted blame from him,
So we let the reproach against him drop,
and appointed him to the service of affection.
And turned it into deeds of affection.
فَلاso let no يَتَشَرَّرَنَّever cast sparks عَلَيهِupon him سُخطٌwrath
فَقَدfor indeed بَطَلَتhas been annulled مُحاسَبَةُthe reckoning البِعادِestrangement
So let no wrath cast sparks upon him,
Let no discontent sprinkle on him,
for the reckoning for estrangement has been annulled.”
For the reckoning of distances is invalidated.
