دَع ماءَ وَجهِكَ فيهِ لا تُرِقهُ فَما

دَع ماءَ وَجهِكَ فيهِ لا تُرِقهُ فَما

عِندَ الَّذينِ تُرَجّيهِم سِوى الياسِ

عِندَ الَّذينِ تُرَجّيهِم سِوى الياسِ

Keep the water of your face within it; do not spill it, for

Let not your tears flow, do not cry

those you place your hopes in have nothing but despair.

For those you hope for have no hope but despair

وَكُن فَتىً وَزَنَ الدُنيا بِهِمَّتِهِ

وَكُن فَتىً وَزَنَ الدُنيا بِهِمَّتِهِ

فَما يَفي حُبُّها بِالذُلِّ لِلناسِ

فَما يَفي حُبُّها بِالذُلِّ لِلناسِ

And be a young man who has weighed the world against his resolve;

Be brave and weigh the world with your ambition

for love of it cannot compensate for abasement before people.

For its love avails not through humiliation of people
