أَرى اِبنَ فَطوسَةٍ يَغتابُ شِعري
وَشِعريand my verse لِلظِماءِfor the thirsty إِلَيهِfor it صافِpure
وَشِعري لِلظِماءِ إِلَيهِ صافِ
I see Ibn Fatusa slandering my verse,
I see the son of Fatousah backbiting my poetry,
Yet my verse is pure for those who thirst for it.
Yet my poetry to the thirsty leads to water clear.
فَإِنso if لَمnot يَقِفfollow آثاريmy traces بِخَيرٍwith goodwill
فَإِن لَم يَقِف آثاري بِخَيرٍ
أَمَرتُI ordered بِأَنfor … to تُزَبطِرهُthrash him القَوافيthe rhymes
أَمَرتُ بِأَن تُزَبطِرهُ القَوافي
So if he does not follow my traces with goodwill,
If he cannot follow in my virtuous footsteps,
I shall order the rhymes to thrash him.
I command the rhymes to make him disappear.
