عِندي جُعِلتُ فِداكَ مِن نَدمانِ

رايٌ قَريبُ العَهدِ بِالغُدارنِ

I offer myself to be sacrificed for you out of regret

An opinion close in alliance with betrayal

يُقلى لَنا في الوَقتِ حينَ يَجيئَنا

فَيَجيئُنا كَسَبائِكِ العِقيانِ

Roasted for us at times when it comes upon us

So it comes to us like your transverse pipes

يَرِدُ المَقالي وَهوَ أَبيَضُ ساطِعٌ

وَيَعودُ مِنها وَهوَ أَحمَرُ قانِ

It returns the vessels white radiant

And returns from them red hot

وَلَحَبَّذا كافورُهُ سيما إِذا

ما خَلَّقَتهُ حَرارَةُ النيرانِ

And blessed is its camphor especially when

The heat of fires speckles it

وَاِنعَم بِما يَأيتكَ مِن نَسرينِهِ

مُتَرَدِّياً بِشَقائِقِ النُعمانِ

And enjoy what comes to you from its breeze

Flowing with the anemones and meadowsaffrons

فَاِعذُر فَمالي بَعدَهُ شَيءٌ سِوى

دَستيجَةٌ مَلأى وَسِتُّ قَناني

So excuse me, after it I have nothing

Except a tray full and six glass jugs

مِن قَهوَةٍ تَجلى عَلَيكَ كُؤوسُها

وَرُءوسُها في أَحسَنِ التيجانِ

Of coffee that its cups shine upon you

And their tops in the best crowns

وَقَد اِستَزَرتُ مُهَفهَفاً لِغِنائِهِ

حُلَلٌ يَزَفُّ بِها مِنَ الأَلحانِ

And I have worn, fluttering to its singing,

Robes it flaunts with from the melodies

فَاِجعَل لِروحِكَ راحَةً في يَومِنا

بِرَواحِها لِلراحِ وَالرَيحانِ

So make for your soul some comfort in our day

With its spirits for comfort and sweet basil
