I go to great lengths فيin مُناصَحَةِsincerely advising الصَديقِthe friend
وَأَرشُدُهُand I guide him إِلىto سَنَنِthe straight course of الطَريقِthe path
I go to great lengths in sincerely counseling a friend,
I advise my friend sincerely
And guide him to the straight path.
And guide him to the path's ways
وَأوثِرُهُand I favor him عَلىover نَفسيmyself وَماليand my wealth
وَأُغضِبُand I anger فيfor رِضاهُhis satisfaction أَخيmy brother شَقيقيmy full brother
And favor him over myself and my wealth,
I put him before myself, my wealth
And, to please him, anger my own full brother.
And anger, to please my brother
فَأولِيَهُso I grant him الجَميلَkindness مِنَof التَغاضيoverlooking faults
إِذاwhen أَولىhe bestows القَبيحَugliness مِنَof العُقوقِdisloyalty
So I show him the kindness of overlooking faults,
So I repay his good with forgiveness
When he shows the ugliness of disloyalty.
If he repays evil with disobedience
فََخَلِّthen leave عَنِaside الصَداقَةِfriendship لاdo not تَرِدهاapproach it
إِذاif لَمnot تَغتَفِرyou forgive ذَنبَthe fault of الصَديقِthe friend
Then leave friendship aside; do not approach it,
Therefore leave off the friendship, do not reject it
If you do not forgive a friend's fault.
If you do not forgive your friend's sin
