أَصوغُI fashion الحُلىthe ornaments فيin كُلِّevery يَومٍday وَلَيلَةٍand night
أَصوغُ الحُلى في كُلِّ يَومٍ وَلَيلَةٍ
وَأُتعِبُand I strain مِنّيof mine فيin صِياغَتِهاfashioning them الحِساthe senses
وَأُتعِبُ مِنّي في صِياغَتِها الحِسا
I fashion ornaments every day and night,
I fashion jewels each day and night
And strain my senses in fashioning them.
And tire myself engraving them
فَلَوso even if مُتُّI died ضُرّاًfrom hardship ماnot عَقَدتُI fastened قِلادَةًa necklace
فَلَو مُتُّ ضُرّاً ما عَقَدتُ قِلادَةً
عَلىupon جيدِthe neck مِنone who لاnot يَستَحِقُّdeserves لَهاfor it لُبساwearing
عَلى جيدِ مِن لا يَستَحِقُّ لَها لُبسا
So even if I were to die of hardship, I would not fasten a necklace
If I were to die of grief, I'd not string
Around the neck of one unworthy to wear it.
A necklace on one unworthy of its dress
