أَجيءُ وَإِن كانَ يَومُ الخَميسِ

أَجيءُ وَإِن كانَ يَومُ الخَميسِ

بِدَأبِيَ في الرايِ وَالأَبرِميسِ

بِدَأبِيَ في الرايِ وَالأَبرِميسِ

I come, even if it is Thursday,

I come even if it's Thursday

As is my custom in al-Rāy and al-Abrimīs.

With my usual revelry and promiscuity

وَأَشرَبُ مِن قَبلِ أَن أقتَضى

وَأَشرَبُ مِن قَبلِ أَن أقتَضى

وَلا أَتَعَدّى مُرادَ الجَليسِ

وَلا أَتَعَدّى مُرادَ الجَليسِ

And I drink before I am asked,

I drink before I even need to

And I do not overstep my companion's wishes.

Not exceeding my boon companion's desire

فَما أَرتَضي العَيشَ كُسوَةً

فَما أَرتَضي العَيشَ كُسوَةً

غِذا لَم تَكُن مِن نَسيجِ الكُؤوسِ

غِذا لَم تَكُن مِن نَسيجِ الكُؤوسِ

For I am not content with life as a garment

So I don't enjoy living sober

If it is not woven from cups.

Unless woven from the fabric of cups
