وَرَمَّand restored مِنof أَفراحِناour joys ماwhat اِنهَدَمcrumbled
Extinguish whatever has flared up of our sorrows,
It quenched what blazed of our sorrows,
and rebuild whatever has crumbled of our joys.
And restored what had crumbled of our joys.
صَحوٌfair weather أَتىcame فيin مَوكِبٍa procession لَمnot يَزَلcease
بِعَسكَرِagainst the army of الشَتوَةِwinter حَتّىuntil اِنهَزَمwas routed
Fair weather came in a procession that never ceased
Fair weather came in a procession that never ceased
to assail winter’s army until it was routed.
Pressing winter's army until it was routed.
فَطابَتِso found ease النَفسُthe soul الَّتيthat لَمnot تَطِبbe at ease
وَنامَتِand slept العَينُthe eye الَّتيthat لَمnot تَنَمsleep
Then the soul that had known no ease grew content,
So the soul that had not been at ease found ease,
and the eye that had not slept fell asleep.
And the eye that had not slept fell asleep.
وَشابَand grew gray طِفلُthe child of الخَوفِfear بَعدَafter الصِباchildhood
وَشَبَّand grew young شَيخُthe old man of الأَمنِsafety بَعدَafter الهَرَمdecrepitude
The child of fear grew gray after childhood,
And fear's child grew gray after childhood,
while the aged man of safety grew young after decrepitude.
And safety's old man grew young after decrepitude.

Our scattered company was reunited—and but for the one
And the company was reunited; but for what
God graciously bestowed upon us, it would never have reunited.
God graciously bestowed, it would not have been reunited.

O you who are the sea when it overflows,
and who are the life-giving rain whenever it pours,
And you who are the rain when it pours,

whose generosity, whenever it strikes,
And you whose bounty, when it strikes,
makes Nothingness itself die of dread.
Makes poverty die for fear of it.

Your face has shone with its full-moon radiance;
From your face's full moon has shone forth
the eclipse of pain is no longer within the soul.
What had lain within the very eclipse of pain.

Far be it from the One who embroidered its brocade
Far be it from the One who embroidered its brocade
with beauty ever to wear it out with sickness.
With beauty, to wear it out with sickness.

He has indeed blessed you with recovery, so be grateful;
He has granted recovery, so be grateful,
for through gratitude blessings endure.
For blessings endure through gratitude.
