اِشرَب عَلى زَهرِ البَنَفسَجِ قَهوَةً

تُهدي السُرورَ إِلى الحَزينِ المُكمَدِ

تُهدي السُرورَ إِلى الحَزينِ المُكمَدِ

Drink wine beside the violet blossoms,

Drink coffee on violet's blossom

That brings joy to the sorrowful and grief-stricken.

It gives joy to the depressed lad

فَكَأَنَّهُ قَرصٌ بِخَدِّ مُهَفهَفٍ

فَكَأَنَّهُ قَرصٌ بِخَدِّ مُهَفهَفٍ

أَو أَعيُنٌ زُرقٌ كُحِلنَ بِإِثمِدِ

أَو أَعيُنٌ زُرقٌ كُحِلنَ بِإِثمِدِ

For it is like a pinch-mark on a slender youth's cheek,

As if it were a cheek of fluttering eyelid

Or blue eyes lined with antimony kohl.

Or blue eyes lined with kohl of Ethmud
