أَماdo ... not? تَرىyou see الأَبرَميسَthe abramis fish مُضطَرِباquivering
كَأَنَّهُas though it were قَلبُthe heart of عاشِقٍa lover رَجِفِtrembling
Do you not see the abramis fish quivering,
Behold the ducks, excited and trembling
As though it were the heart of a trembling lover?

When the waters saw it shivering
When the water saw them hesitating therein
Within them, they clothed it in breastplates of shell.
It opened for them the shells of oysters
فَظَلَّso it kept مِنfrom لِذَّةِthe pleasure of السُرورِjoy بِهاin them
يَفتَحُit opens مِنهُon it مَواضِعُthe places for الشَنَفِear-pendants
So, in the pleasure of its joy in them, it kept
So they remained in the bliss of joy with it
Opening the places on itself where ear-pendants would hang.
Opening from it places of yearning
