وَمِمّاand among what شَجانيgrieved me أَنَّthat يَومَon the day of وَداعِهِمtheir farewell
وَمِمّا شَجاني أَنَّ يَومَ وَداعِهِم
أَذابَmelted الأَسىsorrow قَلبيmy heart فَأَجراهُso it made it flow مِنfrom طَرفيmy eye
أَذابَ الأَسى قَلبي فَأَجراهُ مِن طَرفي
And among the things that grieved me was that, on the day of her farewell,
And among the things that grieved me was that, on the day of their farewell,
sorrow melted my heart and made it stream from my eye.

فَلَمّاand when أَشارواthey gestured بِالسَلامِwith a farewell greeting بَسَلَّمَتhanded over (initial prefix unclear)
فَلَمّا أَشاروا بِالسَلامِ بَسَلَّمَت
يَدُthe hand of البَينِparting روحيmy soul فَاِسلَمَتهاso it surrendered it إِلىto حَتفيmy death
يَدُ البَينِ روحي فَاِسلَمَتها إِلى حَتفي
And when they gestured farewell, thereupon claimed—
And when they gestured farewell, my soul was handed over
the hand of parting—my soul; so I surrendered it to my doom.
By the hand of parting, which surrendered it to my death.
