And a woman said: Traverse the deserts until

you make your camel kneel beside one whose pasture is lush.

So I said: And why should I obey you by departing

from the frontier town that serves me?

By my life, no drought has harmed me,

leaving me wretched until spring succeeds it.

Nor am I one whose livelihood is barren,

nor one beset by injustice and hunger.

    If I have a day's sustenance

and seek beyond it, then contentment is not mine.

How, then, when I have gains such that no

climber can alight upon any star of theirs?

So why do I not shorten my greed's stride,

while sustenance's stride in pursuit of me is swift?
