وَسِترٍ لِصاحِبِهِ نيقَةٌ

وَسِترٍ لِصاحِبِهِ نيقَةٌ

فَسَلَّمَهُ اللَهُ ما أَحذَقَه

فَسَلَّمَهُ اللَهُ ما أَحذَقَه

And a curtain whose owner has refined taste—

A veil for its owner of fine make

so may God preserve him! How skillful he is!

May God protect him for his skillfulness

إِذا ما تَبَدّى تَحَيَّرتَ مِن

إِذا ما تَبَدّى تَحَيَّرتَ مِن

صُنوفِ تَصاويرِهِ المونِقَه

صُنوفِ تَصاويرِهِ المونِقَه

When it appears, you are bewildered by

When it appears, you're perplexed by

the varieties of its delightful pictures.

The diversity of its vivid images

تَرى ذا عَلى رَأسِهِ خوذَةً

تَرى ذا عَلى رَأسِهِ خوذَةً

وَهَذا عَلى خَصرِهِ مِنطَقَه

وَهَذا عَلى خَصرِهِ مِنطَقَه

You see this one with a helmet on his head,

You see this one with a helmet on his head

and this one with a belt about his waist.

And that with a belt around his waist

وَفَرشَ مَراتِبِ ذا مَذهَبٌ

وَفَرشَ مَراتِبِ ذا مَذهَبٌ

وَفَضَّةُ آلاتِ ذا مَحرِقَه

وَفَضَّةُ آلاتِ ذا مَحرِقَه

And this one's couch coverings are gilded,

And this one lined his place with fabric

and the silver of this one's implements is fire-treated.

And the silverware of that glittering

وَهاتيكَ في يَدِها خاتَمٌ

وَهاتيكَ في يَدِها خاتَمٌ

وَهاتيكَ في جيدِها مِخنَقَه

وَهاتيكَ في جيدِها مِخنَقَه

And that woman has a ring on her hand,

And this one with a ring in her hand

and that woman has a choker about her neck.

And that with a necklace around her neck

نُشَبِّهُ مَنسوجَهُ كُلَّما

نُشَبِّهُ مَنسوجَهُ كُلَّما

تَباهَت بِأَصباغِهِ المَشرَقَه

تَباهَت بِأَصباغِهِ المَشرَقَه

We liken its woven fabric, whenever

We compare its weaving whenever

it glories in its radiant dyes,

It boasts with its radiant dyes

بِرَوضٍ جَلَتهُ بِأَزهارِهِ

بِرَوضٍ جَلَتهُ بِأَزهارِهِ

شَآبيبُ مُرعِدَةٍ مُبرِقَه

شَآبيبُ مُرعِدَةٍ مُبرِقَه

to a meadow brightened with its blossoms by

To a meadow that dazzled it with its flowers

thundering, lightning-flashing showers.

Flashes of flickering lightning

وَإِلذا فَبِالجَوهَرِ المُنتَقى

وَإِلذا فَبِالجَوهَرِ المُنتَقى

إِذا شابَ أَحمَرُه أَزرَقَه

إِذا شابَ أَحمَرُه أَزرَقَه

Or else, to choice gems,

And with the chosen gem

when its red mingles with its blue.

When its redness intermingled with its blueness

فَمُلّيهِ مَن هُوَ في دارِهِ

فَمُلّيهِ مَن هُوَ في دارِهِ

كَما لَم يُعَلِّقهُ لِلمَحرَقَه

كَما لَم يُعَلِّقهُ لِلمَحرَقَه

So may the one in whose home it is enjoy it long,

So fold it, you who are in his house

just as he did not hang it up to be burned.

As if you did not hang it out to dry
