ما يَقرُبُ المَرءُ مِن قِرنٍ يَلَذُّ بِهِ

ما يَقرُبُ المَرءُ مِن قِرنٍ يَلَذُّ بِهِ

حَتّى يَكونَ بَعيداً مِن تَعَصُّبِهِ

حَتّى يَكونَ بَعيداً مِن تَعَصُّبِهِ

A man does not draw near a peer in whom he delights

What brings a person close to a companion he takes pleasure in

Until he is far removed from his partisanship.

Is to be far from bigoted partisanship towards him

فَتَركُهُ لِلتَجَنّي فيهِ قائِدَةٌ

فَتَركُهُ لِلتَجَنّي فيهِ قائِدَةٌ

لِأَنَّهُ لَيسَ يَجدي ما يُسَرُّ بِهِ

لِأَنَّهُ لَيسَ يَجدي ما يُسَرُّ بِهِ

Thus abandoning him leads to unjust accusations against him,

So leaving him to be unfair to him is a principle

For what delights him is of no avail.

Because it is of no use what pleases him
