A bride of wine was brought in procession to us,

كَساهاclothed her الدَلُّcoquetry حُلَّةَa robe of جُلَّنارٍpomegranate blossoms
كَساها الدَلُّ حُلَّةَ جُلَّنارٍ
فَطَرَّزَهاthen embroidered her المِزاجُthe admixture بِأُقحُوانِwith chamomile
فَطَرَّزَها المِزاجُ بِأُقحُوانِ
Coy grace clothed her in a robe of pomegranate blossom,
Coquetry clothed her in a robe of pomegranate blossoms,
and the mingling-water embroidered her with daisies.
Then the admixture embroidered her with chamomile.
فَلَمّاand when أَنthat (emphatic particle here) جَلَوناهاwe unveiled her تَناءىwithdrew far away
فَلَمّا أَن جَلَوناها تَناءى
مِنَof الأَحزانِthe sorrows عَنّاfrom us كُلُّevery دانِnear one
مِنَ الأَحزانِ عَنّا كُلُّ دانِ
When at last we unveiled her, far away withdrew
And when we unveiled her, far withdrew
from us every sorrow that had drawn near.
