قُولاsay, you two لِسَاقٍto a cupbearer قَساwas harsh عَناfrom us فَيترُكَهاso he may leave it
قُولا لِسَاقٍ قَسا عَنا فَيترُكَها
كأساًa cup دِهَاقاbrimming غدَتhas become تَرنوgazes لجُلاَّسِat those seated
كأساً دِهَاقا غدَت تَرنو لجُلاَّسِ
You two, tell a cupbearer who has been harsh toward us to let it go—
a brimming cup that now gazes at those seated.
لاdo not تحبِسِwithhold الكاسَthe cup عناfrom us وهيwhile it is مترَعَةٌbrimful
لا تحبِسِ الكاسَ عنا وهي مترَعَةٌ
فالكاسُfor the cup فيin الرَّاحِthe palm غيرُis not the same as الرَّاحِthe wine فيin الكَاسِthe cup
فالكاسُ في الرَّاحِ غيرُ الرَّاحِ في الكَاسِ
Do not withhold the cup from us while it is full,
for the cup in the palm is not the wine in the cup.
