كلَّما تِهتَ دَلالا

كلَّما تِهتَ دَلالا

زِدتَ حُسنا وجَمالا

زِدتَ حُسنا وجَمالا

Whenever you strutted coquettishly,

Whenever you turn away, beloved

you grew in loveliness and beauty.

You become more beautiful and perfect

سيدي قَدُّك أَودى

سيدي قَدُّك أَودى

بِفُؤادي حينَ مالا

بِفُؤادي حينَ مالا

My lord, your figure brought ruin

My lord, your height has killed

to my heart when it swayed.

My heart when it leaned

لذةُ الحبِّ عَفافاٌ

لذةُ الحبِّ عَفافاٌ

يُكسِبُ الحبَّ جَلالا

يُكسِبُ الحبَّ جَلالا

Love's delight is chastity,

The pleasure of love is chastity

which lends love majesty.

Love bestows majesty

ما أرى طَعمَه إلا الش

ما أرى طَعمَه إلا الش

شَهد والعَذبَ الزُّلالا

شَهد والعَذبَ الزُّلالا

I find its taste to be nothing but

I see its taste only as sweet honey

honey and sweet, clear water.

And fresh pure drink

ولقد إزدادَ هَدياً

ولقد إزدادَ هَدياً

كلَّما زدتُ ضَلالا

كلَّما زدتُ ضَلالا

And indeed it grew in guidance,

And you have indeed become more guiding

whenever I strayed still further.

The more I go astray

أشفِ من عَيني سُهادا

أشفِ من عَيني سُهادا

واشفِ مِن عَقلي اختِبالا

واشفِ مِن عَقلي اختِبالا

Cure my eye of sleeplessness,

Quench my eyes from drowsiness

and cure my mind of madness.

And heal my mind from confusion

ما أرى حُبَّك إلا

ما أرى حُبَّك إلا

قاتِلي واللهِ حالا

قاتِلي واللهِ حالا

I see your love as nothing but

I do not see your love

my slayer, by God, right now.

Except as my killer, by God, now

وغرامي فيكَ يَزدا

وغرامي فيكَ يَزدا

دُ يَقيناً واتِّصالا

دُ يَقيناً واتِّصالا

And my passion for you increases

And my passion for you increases

in certainty and constancy,

Certainty and connection

كلَّما أَيقنتُ أن ال

كلَّما أَيقنتُ أن ال

وصلَ قد صارَ مُحالا

وصلَ قد صارَ مُحالا

whenever I become certain that

Whenever I am certain that

union has become impossible.

Reunion has become impossible

ماسَ غُصناً وتَبَدَّى

ماسَ غُصناً وتَبَدَّى

بَدرَ تَمٍّ يَتَلالى

بَدرَ تَمٍّ يَتَلالى

He swayed like a bough and appeared

A branch has blossomed and

as a gleaming full moon.

A full moon has appeared, shining

إنَّ بعضَ الظَّنِّ إثمٌ

إنَّ بعضَ الظَّنِّ إثمٌ

صَدَق اللهُ تَعالى

صَدَق اللهُ تَعالى

Indeed, some suspicion is a sin.

Indeed, some doubt is sin

God Most High has spoken truly.

God the Exalted spoke truthfully

بالذي زادَكَ حُسناً

بالذي زادَكَ حُسناً

وجَمالا وجَلالا

وجَمالا وجَلالا

By Him who increased your loveliness,

By the one who increased your beauty

and beauty and majesty,

And perfection and majesty

إرحَمِ الصَّبَّ المُعَنَّى

إرحَمِ الصَّبَّ المُعَنَّى

فيكَ وامنَحهُ وِصالا

فيكَ وامنَحهُ وِصالا

have mercy on the lover tormented

Have mercy on the enamored youth

with love for you, and grant him union.

In you and grant him reunion

سيدي عبدُك يَشكُو

سيدي عبدُك يَشكُو

منكَ هَجرا يَتَوالى

منكَ هَجرا يَتَوالى

My lord, your slave complains

My lord, your slave complains

of your estrangement that goes on and on.

Of separation from you continuing

لم تَزَل تَزدادُ فِعلا

لم تَزَل تَزدادُ فِعلا

كُلَّما زِدتُ انفِعالا

كُلَّما زِدتُ انفِعالا

You kept doing more and more,

You never stop increasing in action

whenever I grew more impassioned.

Whenever I am more affected

كلَّما رُمتُ سُلُوًّا

كلَّما رُمتُ سُلُوًّا

قال لي قَدُّكَ لا لا

قال لي قَدُّكَ لا لا

Whenever I sought to forget,

Whenever I intend solace

your figure said to me, 'No, no.'

Your height says no, no

يا جليلَ القَدر إنِّي

يا جليلَ القَدر إنِّي

عبدُكَ الصَّافي المَقالا

عبدُكَ الصَّافي المَقالا

O you of exalted rank, I am

O majestic one, I am

your slave, sincere in speech.

Your sincere servant in speech
