There is no calamity in this world

Like fathers' loss of their sons.

Likewise, no cure for illness equals patience,

For patience is a balm for illness.

    O great leader, whose

deeds have been accompanied by every praise,

And who has trailed the hem of glory and stature,

And pride in the arena of eminence:

We have never known you dismayed by calamity,

Even were that calamity to fill all space.

So arm yourself with patience for what has been decreed by

God, for patience is the trait of the great.

Bear this calamity in hope of God's reward,

And with God lies a goodly recompense.

Then bestow your prayers upon his grave's earth,

For He—glory be to Him—answers prayer,

Especially from a father wounded at heart,

Tearful of eye, his inward parts aflame,

Patient with the decree in whatever God has ordained—

And how excellent is one who bears the decree patiently!

So remain, fine young man, patient and content,

    Thankful in prosperity and adversity.

And through his brothers you find strength, for they—

Praise be to God—are a delight to the beholder.

Through them you are recompensed in this life,

And the hereafter's reward is the greatest reward.

So may God show you what you long for

In them; He is indeed the guardian of hope.

And may He lodge the departed in an abode of truth,

Trailing his robes in the ample expanse of bliss.
