تَشرَّفتِ الأحِبَّةُ بِالحضورِ

تَشرَّفتِ الأحِبَّةُ بِالحضورِ

بِعُرسِ أبي المَعالي ابنِ البَشيرِ

بِعُرسِ أبي المَعالي ابنِ البَشيرِ

The dear friends were honored to be present

The loved ones were honored to attend

At the wedding of Abu al-Ma‘ali ibn al-Bashir.

The wedding of my master the son of Al-Bashir

فقرَّت أعينٌ منهم وعنهم

فقرَّت أعينٌ منهم وعنهم

طغَى جيشُ المسَرَّةِ والحبُور

طغَى جيشُ المسَرَّةِ والحبُور

So eyes among them were gladdened, and from them

Eyes teared up with joy for him

Surged an army of delight and joy.

The army of happiness flooded forth

وفي فرَحٍ وفي مَرَحٍ تَساوت

وفي فرَحٍ وفي مَرَحٍ تَساوت

وفودٌ فيه ماجت كالبُحورِ

وفودٌ فيه ماجت كالبُحورِ

And alike in joy and merriment were

In delight and merriment they gathered

The visiting throngs that surged there like seas.

Like waves rolling onto shores

فلستَ تَرى سوى قلبٍ طروبٍ

فلستَ تَرى سوى قلبٍ طروبٍ

ولستَ ترى سوى وجهٍ نَضيرِ

ولستَ ترى سوى وجهٍ نَضيرِ

So you see nothing but a joyous heart,

You see only cheerful hearts

And you see nothing but a radiant face,

And only radiant faces

وأحبابٍ تَبارت في احتفاءٍ

وأحبابٍ تَبارت في احتفاءٍ

عواطِفُهم وفاحت كالزُّهورِ

عواطِفُهم وفاحت كالزُّهورِ

And dear friends, vying in their warm welcome,

Friends competing in celebration

Their affections wafting fragrance like flowers.

Their affection bursting like flowers

فا لِحَديثِهم إلا ثناءٌ

فا لِحَديثِهم إلا ثناءٌ

يُفاوحُ نَشرُه نشرَ العَبيرِ

يُفاوحُ نَشرُه نشرَ العَبيرِ

So their talk is nothing but praise,

Their talk nothing but praise

Its fragrance rivaling the fragrance of perfume.

Its fragrance wafting like perfume

وللإجلالِ والإكبارِ قَلبٌ

وللإجلالِ والإكبارِ قَلبٌ

وللإخلاصِ أعماقُ الضَّميرِ

وللإخلاصِ أعماقُ الضَّميرِ

And for reverence and high esteem, a heart;

Hearts filled with reverence and exaltation

And for sincere devotion, the depths of conscience.

And sincerity from the depths of conscience

تَباركَ مَن بِصَدرِ الناسِ طُرّاً

تَباركَ مَن بِصَدرِ الناسِ طُرّاً

سُوَيداء أحلَّه في الصُّدورِ

سُوَيداء أحلَّه في الصُّدورِ

Blessed is He who, within the breasts of all people,

Blessed is he who is most beloved

Has lodged him in the very core of their hearts.

Made whiter than white in hearts

تزيدُ القلبَ رُؤيتُه اشتياقاً

تزيدُ القلبَ رُؤيتُه اشتياقاً

كَظمآنٍ لَدى العذبِ النَّميرِ

كَظمآنٍ لَدى العذبِ النَّميرِ

The sight of him increases the heart’s longing,

Seeing him increases longing in the heart

Like a thirsty man beside sweet, refreshing water.

Like a thirsty man by sweet water

بِنورِ بَصيرةٍ ومَضاءِ عَزمٍ

بِنورِ بَصيرةٍ ومَضاءِ عَزمٍ

وإدراكِ وإرهافِ الشُّعورِ

وإدراكِ وإرهافِ الشُّعورِ

With the light of insight and keenness of resolve,

With the light of insight and blaze of resolve

And discernment and finely sharpened feeling,

And vigilant keen awareness

إذا ليلُ الخُطوبِ أتى فَمنهُ

إذا ليلُ الخُطوبِ أتى فَمنهُ

وجوُ الرَّأي تُسِفرُ عن بُدورِ

وجوُ الرَّأي تُسِفرُ عن بُدورِ

When the night of calamities comes, then from him

When the night of trials comes

The faces of counsel reveal full moons.

His leadership illuminates the way forward

فَعِم واهنأ به عُرسا سعيداً

فَعِم واهنأ به عُرسا سعيداً

له إشراقةُ البدرِ المُنيرِ

له إشراقةُ البدرِ المُنيرِ

So fare well, and rejoice in it—a happy wedding,

Congratulate him on his joyous wedding

It has the radiance of the shining full moon.

Illuminated like the shining full moon

ستَحظى بالمُنى فيه وتَلقى

ستَحظى بالمُنى فيه وتَلقى

به الأيامَ باسمةَ الثُّغورِ

به الأيامَ باسمةَ الثُّغورِ

You will attain your wishes in it, and meet

He will attain his wishes on this day

Through it, days with smiling mouths.

And meet with auspicious days ahead
