أتى بازديادِ البشيرِ البَشيرُ

فكِدتُ سُروراً بِهذا أطَير

The bearer of glad tidings came with news of al-Bashir’s birth;

The harbinger came with good tidings

So I nearly flew for joy at this.

سَيقفو خُطى لَيثِه إذ يَسير

I congratulate a lion on a precious cub,

I congratulate the lion for a dear cub
