O successor to Jesus in healing affliction,

and one with a secret in his ten fingertips,

and one whose character heals you before his treatment,

and that is when his face greets you with cheer.

Although you are loved by all people,

especially your patients, all so grateful,

they see you as a blessing from God among them,

and your renown among them rivals musk in fragrance,

yet you are Azrael's bitterest foe.

Oh, how often he casts hostile sidelong looks at you!

He sees you vying with him for his clients,

rescuing them from between his fang and claw.

My soul rejoiced in you at the first glance,

and the promise you made was that of a noble young man.

You were stern only in your orders, when

you imposed fasting on me in the non-fasting months.

Fasting would do no harm, were it from food alone,

but it is a fast that torments the brother of poetry.

Yes, it is a fast whose benefit has become clear,

and how short a night followed by dawn's brightness!

It was indeed followed by my joy and delight,

and all my close friends shared in my experience.

And everyone's joy gained warmth and delight

from the care of the land's pasha, a man of standing and renown.

    فشُكراً لِباشا القُطرِ من شاعِر القُطرِ

    So he rejoiced at my recovery and your skill;

so thanks to the land's pasha from the land's poet.

When Dr. Jaccoud is mentioned among us,

mouths answer one another with praise and thanks.

When Dr. Jaccoud is mentioned among us,

you feel the delights of healing coursing through your breast.

Jesus' successor, with Muhammad's son beside him:

it is fitting that those who meet him be healed of affliction.

For that reason, repeating my praise is a duty:

praise that will endure eternally, for all time.

I came to you with illnesses multiplied within me,

and I cured myself of them in two-thirds of a month.
