O leader and noble-hearted man who

has become the finest wearer of the robe of glory,

and peerless in virtues, and the full moon whose

radiance is complete among the full moons—

do you remember the promise you made

to a friend who has not tired of your eminence?

You broke it, and so he recites to you:

“Not thus, O Saʿd, are the camels brought to water.”
