أرسمَO image of حَبِيبيmy beloved زِدتَyou increased قَلبِيmy heart تَشوُّقاًin longing
أرسمَ حَبِيبي زِدتَ قَلبِي تَشوُّقاً
وأضرَمتَand you kindled بالأحشَاءِin the innermost depths منّيof me تَحرُّقاburning anguish
وأضرَمتَ بالأحشَاءِ منّي تَحرُّقا
O image of my beloved, you have increased my heart’s longing,
And kindled burning anguish in my innermost depths.
نعَمyes زِدتَنِيyou made me yearn more ياO رسمُimage حينwhen أذاقَنِيmade me taste
نعَم زِدتَنِي يا رسمُ حين أذاقَنِي
حبِيبِىَmy beloved طعمَthe flavor of البَينِparting والشَّملَand the union فَرَّقَاhe sundered
حبِيبِىَ طعمَ البَينِ والشَّملَ فَرَّقَا
Yes, you heightened my longing, O image, when I was made to taste
By my beloved the flavor of parting, and he sundered our union.
سأعتِبُهI shall reproach him جَهديwith all my effort وفضلَكand your kindness أشكُرَنI shall surely give thanks for
سأعتِبُه جَهدي وفضلَك أشكُرَن
إذاif قدّرَordains اللهُGod اجتِماعاa reunion وَمُلتَقَىand a meeting
إذا قدّرَ اللهُ اجتِماعا وَمُلتَقَى
I shall reproach him with all my might, and surely give thanks for your kindness,
If God ordains a reunion and a meeting.
