O chief whom we deem a subordinate,

    Despite shoulders bearing the burnous.

O owl of ill omen and ruin, how long

Will you dwell in ruins and inhabited places?

    غيَّب اللهُ وجَهكِ المنحُوسا

    Hide your ill-omened face and fly away;

May God make your ill-omened face vanish.

The eye has never seen a vile chief

Like him; so curse the vile chief!

Time's blunders are many and varied, and yet

None like this loathed man's becoming a chief.

Wicked of soul, wicked by nature—in your expectations

You have failed; come, grasp Jupiter!

The All-Merciful will protect them all from you,

And He—glory be to Him—will disgrace Iblis.

You will meet your recompense before long,

When, after your expulsion, you hear 'Encore!'
