May I have permission for a word of greeting,

    to greet the Arab youth?

And if I burst in without permission,

then greet them, what blame would fall on me?

Am I anything but one of you—

in spirit and heart, and patriotic zeal,

and in belief, principle, and language,

and in pride in Mudar's chivalry?

So my hopes are at one end of a cord of connection,

in your hands, and its other end is in mine.

    هَكَذا قدَّرَ الإِلهُ عليَّه

    I melted with longing, yet did not attain my hopes;

    thus God decreed for me.
