إن غَابَ صَفوُ العَيشِ عَنَّا بُرهَةً

إن غَابَ صَفوُ العَيشِ عَنَّا بُرهَةً

لا بُدَّ صَفوُ العَيشِ يَوماً يَرجِعُ

لا بُدَّ صَفوُ العَيشِ يَوماً يَرجِعُ

If life's serenity leaves us for a while,

If joy in life is absent for a while,

Life's serenity must one day return.

Joy in life will surely return one day.

وَتمَنَّ أيَامَ السُّرورِ بِعَوَدةٍ

وَتمَنَّ أيَامَ السُّرورِ بِعَوَدةٍ

فمِنَ السُّرُورِ رَجَاؤنَا لا يُقطَعُ

فمِنَ السُّرُورِ رَجَاؤنَا لا يُقطَعُ

And wish for the days of joy to return,

And we wish for the days of happiness to return

For our hope of joy is not cut off.

For our hope for joy does not get severed.

حَتَّى كَأنَّا لَم نَذُق لِكَآبَةٍ

حَتَّى كَأنَّا لَم نَذُق لِكَآبَةٍ

طَعماً وَلم تَكُ مُهجَةٌ تَتَقَطَّعُ

طَعماً وَلم تَكُ مُهجَةٌ تَتَقَطَّعُ

Until it is as though we had never tasted sorrow's

It's as if we've never tasted depression

Flavor, and no heart had been torn apart.

Or a heartbreaking grief.

لا قَلبَنَا مُتَوجِّعٌ لا بَالَنا

لا قَلبَنَا مُتَوجِّعٌ لا بَالَنا

مُتَصَدِّعٌ لا زَفرَةً تَتَرَجَّعُ

مُتَصَدِّعٌ لا زَفرَةً تَتَرَجَّعُ

Our heart is not aching, nor is our mind

Neither our hearts aching, nor our minds

Shattered, nor does a sigh reverberate.

Shattered, nor sighs repeating.

ويَعُود مُحتَسِبي العَزِيزُ لِحَالِهِ

ويَعُود مُحتَسِبي العَزِيزُ لِحَالِهِ

بِنَشَاطِه وَهَنَائِه يَتَمَتَّعُ

بِنَشَاطِه وَهَنَائِه يَتَمَتَّعُ

And my dear muhtasib returns to his former state,

And the dear esteemed one returns to himself

Enjoying his vigor and happiness.

With his vigor and delight enjoying himself.

وَيُلُوحُ بَدرُ التَّمِّ بَعدَ سِرَارِهِ

وَيُلُوحُ بَدرُ التَّمِّ بَعدَ سِرَارِهِ

وَبِه نَدُورُ كَأَنجُمٍ تَتَلَمَّعُ

وَبِه نَدُورُ كَأَنجُمٍ تَتَلَمَّعُ

And the full moon shines forth after its dark phase,

And the full moon of perfection shines after being concealed

And around him we revolve like glittering stars.

And around it we revolve like twinkling stars.
