I warned him—if only warning could avail!

But thus a deluded one reaps death.

    وكذا على الباغي الزَّمانُ يَدورُ

    And thus the sinners meet their recompense;

and thus time turns against the aggressor.

He wrought oppression—history records none like it—

oppression whose woe the overwhelmed endure.

We lived, and every one of us was safe

in his home, with life lush and abundant.

Our unity was not fractured, nor our sleep

    interrupted, nor our heart terrified,

until what befell the overwhelmed befell us, from

a torrent bursting forth with calamities.

What guilt had children, what guilt had old women

in the houses, when the houses were smashed down upon them?

How little the sinners and their party needed

what they perpetrated—and what had the houses to do with it?

has fate driven to his death!

and for his people, devastation and destruction.

O day of Tunis, will you tell us what

you witnessed? You have so much to say.

How fared the Africans, the lions whose

roar rises on the day of battle?

    فالقُوم هُم والغَيرُ قَومٌ بورُ

    He spoke truly who hailed them as 'the men';

for they are the men; the others are worthless folk.

They returned to us, their victory banners raised,

and the train of their glory trailing.

They returned, every bag filled with spoils

of the enemy, and their leather flasks well stocked.

whose triumph shone forth on the day of glory.

    لم يَثنِ مِن عَزماتِهِم تَحذيرُ

    They offered their lives as a sacrifice to duty;

no warning turned them from their resolve.

    فدَنا إلى أوطانِهِم تَحريرُ

    Their aims: the liberation of their homelands;

and liberation drew near to their homelands.

for them lines of lofty honor.

They returned to us, their breasts cooled

with joy, while their enemy's breast was scorched.

Tell the enemy, who has not seen the forces of the

    Allies—a sea surging with weapons:

    يُخبِرك عنهم جَيشُك المَكسورُ

    Ask your shattered army about them in battle;

your shattered army will tell you about them.

This is the beginning of victory; every beginning

that is praised has a praiseworthy end.

We voiced joy at this victory, just as

woe and ruin had overwhelmed them through it.

Far be it from our Morocco to taste calamity,

while our beloved king is its ruler.

Victory is bound to his presence; so long

live our prince and our victorious king!
