رَأيتُها وهى في سَيَّارةِ السَّفَرِ

رَأيتُها وهى في سَيَّارةِ السَّفَرِ

والوَجهُ مُصطَبِغٌ بِحُمرَةِ الخَفَرِ

والوَجهُ مُصطَبِغٌ بِحُمرَةِ الخَفَرِ

I saw her while she was in the car for the journey,

I saw her in a traveling car

And her face was tinged with the blush of modesty.

Her face blushed from bashfulness

أمَا تَراها ورَوضُ الحُسنِ مُزدَهِرٌ

أمَا تَراها ورَوضُ الحُسنِ مُزدَهِرٌ

فالطَّرفُ في جنَّةٍ والقَلبُ في سَقَرِ

فالطَّرفُ في جنَّةٍ والقَلبُ في سَقَرِ

Do you not see her, with beauty's garden in bloom?

Don't you see her, beauty flourishing

So the eye is in paradise, and the heart in Saqar.

Her glance in heaven, her heart in hell

وفي جَحيمةِ قَلبُ الصَّبِّ مُحتَرِقٌ

وفي جَحيمةِ قَلبُ الصَّبِّ مُحتَرِقٌ

وها رَمادُه في الألحاظِ ذو شَرَرِ

وها رَمادُه في الألحاظِ ذو شَرَرِ

And in the inferno, the ardent lover's heart burns;

In the hell of a passionate heart burning

And behold its ashes in the glances, full of sparks.

Its ashes in glances scattering sparks

وِطرفُها جُمِعَت فيه المَحاسنُ مِن

وِطرفُها جُمِعَت فيه المَحاسنُ مِن

سِحرٍ إلى غُنجِ أشفَارٍ إلى حَورِ

سِحرٍ إلى غُنجِ أشفَارٍ إلى حَورِ

And in her gaze all beauties have been gathered, from

Her glance gathered the beauties

Enchantment to the coyness of lashes to the vivid black and white of her eyes.

Of magic, to the bend of eyelashes, to houri

والخَدُّ ياقوتَةٌ تَرمي أشِعَّتَها

والخَدُّ ياقوتَةٌ تَرمي أشِعَّتَها

تحتَ نِقابٍ يَزيدُ فِتنَةَ البَشَرِ

تحتَ نِقابٍ يَزيدُ فِتنَةَ البَشَرِ

And her cheek is a ruby casting its rays

Her cheek a ruby throwing its rays

Beneath a veil that heightens mankind's enchantment.
