عَهدِيmy recollection بِبَيتِof the House القُدسِof Jerusalem وهوَwhile it is مُقَدَّسُsacred
وَالدِّينُand religion دِينٌreligion والبُراقُand Buraq بُرَاقBuraq
I remember the House of Jerusalem as sacred,
My covenant with Bayt al-Maqdis, it being sanctified
And religion as religion, and Buraq as Buraq.
Religion is religion, and al-Buraq is al-Buraq
وأهمُّand most important مَاwhat لِلمُسلمِينَfor Muslims شَعَائِرٌsacred rites
مِنfrom دُونِهاbefore them الأروَاحُlives والأعنَاقand necks
And most important to Muslims are sacred rites,
The most important rituals for Muslims
Lives and necks stand in their defense.
Without them, souls and necks are lost
عَجَبِيmy wonder منِat ابنِa son of يَهُودٍJews يَعرِفُhe knows قَدرَهhis worth
وَيُؤُمand heads toward بيضَgleaming blades الهندِof India وهيَand they are رِقَاقslender
I marvel at a son of Jews who knows his worth,
I wonder at the son of a Jew who knows his worth
And heads toward India's gleaming blades, slender as they are.
And leads the whites of India, and they are sheets
ماnot كَانَwas بِالأمرِa matter الخفِيفِtrivial سمَاعُهُhearing it
فسَماعُهfor hearing it وَاللهِby God ليسَis not يُطَاقbearable
Hearing it was no trivial matter,
It was not a trivial matter, his hearing it
For hearing it, by God, cannot be borne.
His hearing, by God, cannot be borne
حَنُّواthey longed إلَىfor مَبكَاهُمُtheir place of weeping فَدَعَوهُمso leave them
لمdid not تخلُbe free مِنof مبكَاهُمُtheir place of weeping آفَاقُhorizons
They longed for their place of weeping, so leave them be;
They inclined towards their crying, so they called them
No horizon was without their place of weeping.
Their horizons did not lack crying

بَلفورُBalfour طعمُthe taste of المُسلمِينَMuslims زُعَأقbitterly briny
The Jews lied to their Balfour with their promise;
The Jews lied about their promise in the Balfour Declaration
Balfour, the taste of Muslims is bitter and briny.
Balfour, the taste of Muslims is bitterness
هَذاthis الوِفَاقُthe accord وَهَذِهand these آيَاتهits signs
فَإذَاso if تَخَيَّبَit fails فَالوِفَاقُthen the accord نِفاقُhypocrisy
This is the accord, and these are its signs;
This is the agreement and these are its signs
So if it fails, then the accord is hypocrisy.
So if it fails, then the agreement is hypocrisy
