وافيتُI came to ربعَthe abode الفضلِof bounty كَمhow many مِنof مرَّةa time
فيin غَدوَتيmy early morning وفيand in مَسائِيmy evening والصَّباحand the morning
I have come to the abode of bounty so many times,
How often have I come to the abode of excellence
In my early morning, in my evening, and at daybreak,
In the mornings, evenings, and at dawn,
مُتعَطِّشاthirsting للِقاءِto meet أكرمِthe most generous سيِّدٍa lord
كتَعطُّشlike the thirst الظمآنِof the thirsty man للماءfor water القراحpure
Thirsting to meet the most generous of lords,
Thirsty to meet the most generous master,
As a thirsty man thirsts for pure water.
As the thirsty long for fresh water.
لكنَّbut حظِّيmy fortune لاnot يزالُceases to be مِشاكِسِيmy adversary
وعسَىand perhaps بعطفٍthrough kindness منكَfrom you يَسمحُit grants بالسَّماحbounty
But my fortune remains my adversary;
But my fortune still resists me,
And perhaps, through your kindness, it will grant bounty.
Though perhaps your kindness may forgive and relent.
ولاand do not تكُbe ذاpossessed of البُطاحَthe prostrating fever ياO حبِيبيmy beloved
فقدfor perhaps يقضيputs an end علىto الصَّبِّthe lovesick lover البُطاحُthe prostrating fever
And do not be stricken with prostrating fever, my beloved,
And do not reject me, my love,
For prostrating fever may put an end to the lovesick lover.
For rejection may destroy longing.
