أُناديI call out to رَصيفاًa peer ليof mine هُناكthere وإنَّنيand indeed I
أُنادي رَصيفاً لي هُناك وإنَّني
أُحِبُّI love رَصيفيmy peer فوقَabove حَبِّlove الورَىhumankind طُرَّاall without exception
أُحِبُّ رَصيفي فوقَ حَبِّ الورَى طُرَّا
I call out to a peer of mine there, and indeed I
I call a sidewalk for me there, and I
Love my peer more than I love all humankind.
Love my sidewalk more than the love of the world altogether
أخيmy brother كُلُّall ماليmy wealth دمعةٌa tear وإخالُهاand I think it
أخي كُلُّ مالي دمعةٌ وإخالُها
لِمِثلِكfor one like you مِنfrom مِثليone like me تَقُومُserves لهfor him عُذراas an excuse
لِمِثلِك مِن مِثلي تَقُومُ له عُذرا
My brother, all I have is a tear, and I think it
My brother, all I have is a tear and telling it
Will serve as an excuse for one like me before one like you.
For the likes of you from the likes of me, it makes up an excuse

O poet of Fez, though we have never met,
I feel the absence of a predecessor to envision
God's peace be upon you, from the poet of al-Hamra.
Upon you the peace of God from the poet of the Red Sands
