God be praised for a day enfolded by two festivals!
A day for Allah, adorned with festivals,
Thus it came as an emblem of the soul's delight.
It came to delight the soul, like a title.
عِيدَانِtwo festivals مُصطَحِبَانِaccompanying one another رَمزُa symbol of تَآلُفٍharmony
وتَحَالفٍand alliance عِيدانِtwo festivals مُصطَحبانِaccompanying one another
Two festivals together, a symbol of harmony
The two festivals are accompanying symbols,
And alliance—two festivals together.
Of friendship and alliance, the two accompanying festivals.

A day on which men of government celebrated;
A day which the leaders of government celebrated,
They came to him from afar—and how many from nearby!
So leaders and nobles and notables came to it.
فتَشَرَّفتso were honored بِلِقَائِهِby meeting him العُظَمَاءُthe great وَالنand the (start of 'nobles')

And all are joyful and cheerful with what,
nobles and notables from among the distinguished.
They found and thanked profusely.
وَالكُلُّand all مُغتَبِطٌdelighted ومُنبَسِطٌand cheerful بِمَاat what

And all were delighted and cheerful at what
For Allah, a day of happiness throughout,
they encountered, and returned with the utmost gratitude.
Both its morning and evening alike.
لِلَّهِto God (in praise) منof (emphatic) يَومٍa day سُرورٌjoy كُلُّهُall of it
فَغُدُوُّهُso its morning وَرَوَاحُهُand its evening سِيَّانِalike
God be praised for a day that was all joy!
Or does not the evening of a day conclude with happiness,
Thus its morning and its evening were alike.
In which the majesty of the Sultan was delighted?
أَوَand (interrogative) لَيسَis not يُختَمُis concluded بِالسُّرُورِwith joy مَسَاءُthe evening of يَوstart of 'day'

مٍend of 'day' سُرَّwas gladdened فيهon it جَلاَلَةُHis Majesty السُّلطَانِthe Sultan
And does not joy crown the evening of a day
A king, in whose domain virtues settled,
on which His Majesty the Sultan was gladdened?
And glory in it set loose the reins.
مَلِكٌa king بِسَاحَتِهِin his court المَعاليlofty virtues خَيَّمَتhave encamped
وَالمَجدُand glory فيهاtherein مُرسِلٌletting go لِعِنانِof the reins
A king in whose court lofty virtues have encamped,
A king who assumed from the hearts of subjects,
And glory there lets the reins run free.
A firm throne, steady of pillars.
مَلِكٌa king تَبَوَّأtook his place مِنfrom within قُلوبِthe hearts of رَعِيَّةٍsubjects
عَرشاًa throne مَتيناًsturdy ثَابتَfirm الأركَانِthe pillars
A king who has taken, in his subjects' hearts,
He resided peacefully, but came close in his perfection,
A sturdy throne, its pillars firmly set.
From our hearts until he settled in the gardens.
سَكَنَdwelt السُّهَاal-Suha (a star) لكنyet دَناdrew near بِخِلالِهِthrough his virtues
مِنto (after 'drew near') قَلبِناour heart حتىuntil ثَوىsettled بِجَنَانِin the heart
He dwelt on al-Suha, yet through his virtues drew near
So the firmness of his resolve in the gentleness of his nature,
To our heart, until he settled in its depths.
Is like the slash of a sword and the edge of Yemen.
فمَضاءُso the sharpness of عَزمِهِhis resolve فيamid لًيونَةٍthe gentleness of خُلقِهِhis character
كَرُواءِlike the sheen of إِفرَندٍwatered steel وحِدِّand the edge of يَمانِa Yemeni sword
So the sharpness of his resolve amid his gentleness of character
Between agreement and disagreement is a point,
Is like the sheen of watered steel and a Yemeni sword's edge.
Like many points that escaped minds.
بينَbetween التَّحالُفِalliance والتَّخالُفِand discord نُقطَةٌa dot
كَمhow many نُقطَةٍa dot نَدَّتescaped عَنِfrom الاَذهَانِminds
Between alliance and discord lies a dot;
With his covenant those treaties shone,
How many a dot has escaped people's minds!
And the light of knowledge and cognition illuminated.
فَبِعَهدِهِso in his reign تِلكَthose المعاهِدُinstitutes أشرَقَتshone

وأضَاءَand shone نُورُthe light of العِلمknowledge والعِرفَانِand understanding
So under his reign, those institutes shone,
May Allah reward him for what he deserves,
And the light of knowledge and understanding shone.
Of sublime favors and benevolence.
أللَّهُGod يُجزِيهِreward him بماwith what هوhe أهلُهُworthy of it

May God reward him as he deserves,
And his Crown Prince, with whom he was pleased,
With surpassing bounty and kindness.
May he remain forever praised by every tongue.
