لَديَّwith me رَجاءٌhope فيfor البَقيةِthe remainder منof عُمريmy life
For my beloved I bid life farewell; no longer
Have I any hope for what remains of my life.
محمدMuhammad رِفقاًbe gentle بيwith me فماfor there is no لِيَfor me حيلَةٌrecourse
لَديكَwith you سوَىexcept صَبريmy patience وماand there is no ليَfor me مِنany صَبرpatience
Muhammad, be gentle with me, for I have no recourse
With you except my patience—and I have no patience.
دَعواlet لَحظَهُhis glance فيin القَلبِthe heart يفتِكُravage جُهدهُits full might
فَراحةُfor the repose جِسميmy body فيin الُوصولِreaching إلىto القَبرِthe grave
Let his glance ravage my heart with all its might,
For my body's repose lies in reaching the grave.
لَئنeven if كانwere بَدرُthe full moon التَّمِّfullness يَحكيmirrors جَبِينَهُhis brow
فليسyet there is not لِبَدرٍfor the full moon التَّمِّfullness مَبسِمُهُhis smiling mouth الدُّرِّيpearly
Even if the full moon were to mirror his brow,
Yet the full moon lacks his pearly smile.
وليسand there is not لِبَدرِfor the full moon التِّمِّfullness هُدبَlashes شِفارِهِhis eyelid rims
وليسand there is not لهُfor it ماwhat فيin لِحاظِهhis glances مِنof سِحرِenchantment
Nor does the full moon have the lashes of his eyelids,
Nor does it have the enchantment in his glances.
