ليسَ مِصرٌ وَطناً لي

غيرَ أنَّ القَلبَ مصري

Egypt is not my homeland,

yet my heart is Egyptian.

نِصفُ شَهرٍ مَرَّ لي في

نِصفُ شَهرٍ مَرَّ لي في

ها فَعُمري نِصفُ شَهرِ

ها فَعُمري نِصفُ شَهرِ

Half a month I spent in

it—so my lifetime is half a month.

ليتَ شِعري بَعدَها كي

ليتَ شِعري بَعدَها كي

فَ أرَاني لَيتَ شِعري

فَ أرَاني لَيتَ شِعري

Would that I knew, after it, how

I shall find myself—would that I knew!

إن يَكُن لي مِن عَزاءٍ

إن يَكُن لي مِن عَزاءٍ

فَدموعٌ فَوقَ صَدري

فَدموعٌ فَوقَ صَدري

If I have any consolation,

it is tears upon my breast,

واعتِقادي كُلًُّ شَيءٍ

واعتِقادي كُلًُّ شَيءٍ

بِقَضاءِ اللهِ يَجري

بِقَضاءِ اللهِ يَجري

and my belief that everything

comes to pass by God's decree.

وإلى نادٍ منَ السُّو

وإلى نادٍ منَ السُّو

دانِ فيها كُلُّ شُكري

دانِ فيها كُلُّ شُكري

And to a club from Sudan

there go all my thanks.

أهلُ فَضلٍ أهلُهُ هُم

أهلُ فَضلٍ أهلُهُ هُم

أهلُ عِلمٍ أهلُ بِرِّ

أهلُ عِلمٍ أهلُ بِرِّ

Its members are people of merit,

people of learning, people of benevolence.
