وأبيضَ بِلَّورِىِ لَوَنٍ تَخالُه

وأبيضَ بِلَّورِىِ لَوَنٍ تَخالُه

إذا دارَ فيمَا بينَنا ومضةَ البَرقِ

إذا دارَ فيمَا بينَنا ومضةَ البَرقِ

And a white one, crystalline in hue—you would think it

My crystal white complexion resembles

a lightning flash as it passes round among us.

The flash of lightning amidst us

وتَبدَّى لِلَونٍ بالحُبابِ مُعَمَّمٍ

وتَبدَّى لِلَونٍ بالحُبابِ مُعَمَّمٍ

كما بَعدَ شَمسٍ قَد بدَت أنجُمُ الأفقِ

كما بَعدَ شَمسٍ قَد بدَت أنجُمُ الأفقِ

And it appears, its hue turbaned with bubbles,

Appearing from under the veil, colorfully adorned

As the horizon’s stars appear after the sun.

Like the stars that appear after the sun has set

وأحمَر يَحكِي لَونُه لَونَ خَدِّها

وأحمَر يَحكِي لَونُه لَونَ خَدِّها

وَيحكِي حُبابٌ فوقَه رشحَةَ العَرقِ

وَيحكِي حُبابٌ فوقَه رشحَةَ العَرقِ

And a red one whose color mirrors her cheek’s color,

And my redness tells the color of her cheek

And the bubbles upon it resemble beads of sweat.

With beads above portraying drops of sweat

وخلَّفتمُوني مُفرَدا مع هُريَرتي

وخلَّفتمُوني مُفرَدا مع هُريَرتي

فأُطعِمُها ممَّا لدَى مِن الرِّزقِ

فأُطعِمُها ممَّا لدَى مِن الرِّزقِ

And you left me alone with my little cat,

You left me alone with my murmuring

So I feed her from what sustenance I have.

So I feed it some sustenance I possess

وأشكُو إليها لا إليكُم ظُلاَمَةً

وأشكُو إليها لا إليكُم ظُلاَمَةً

لِتُنصِفَني مِنكم وتَقبِضُ لي حقِّي

لِتُنصِفَني مِنكم وتَقبِضُ لي حقِّي

And I complain to her, not to you, of a wrong,

And complain to her, not to you, of the injustice

So she may secure me justice from you and collect my due.

So she can judge in my favor and restore my right

تُوزِّعُ فيما بينَكم نَظراتِهَا

تُوزِّعُ فيما بينَكم نَظراتِهَا

فَتدرِكُ أنَّ الكُلَّ منكُم أخو عِشقِ

فَتدرِكُ أنَّ الكُلَّ منكُم أخو عِشقِ

She distributes her glances among you,

She divides her glances amongst you

And so realizes that every one of you is a lover.

And realizes you are all brothers of passion

فترفَعُ عينَيها لِوجهِي بنَظرَةٍ

فترفَعُ عينَيها لِوجهِي بنَظرَةٍ

تُضَمَِّنُها شُكري عَن اللُّطفِ والرِّفقِ

تُضَمَِّنُها شُكري عَن اللُّطفِ والرِّفقِ

Then she raises her eyes to my face with a glance,

Then she lifts her eyes to my face with a glance

Conveying her thanks to me for kindness and gentleness.
