Ah, glad tidings for us at the return of our Pasha,

al-Tihami, the valiant one, lion of the forest.

He returned rejoicing in honor and prestige,

and preeminence and favor for his noble person.

He is indeed, indeed, the valiant one we would sacrifice ourselves for,

    abundant in generosity, ever welcoming.

His fame filled the universe, and there rose aloft

in the sky of his glory the firmly anchored domes.

O valiant one—rather, O noblest of valiant men,

    deserving of glory and admiration,

and a noble man through whom his age vied in pride with

every age among the eras of old.

You were absent from me, though you are the pupil of my eye,

so you left my inward parts in turmoil.

Then you found me ever your humble servant,

sincere, standing at a door’s threshold.

And the great, the truly great, knows those of sincere

devotion, whether their homes are far or near.
